The UEFA Champions League is a special competition. It features the best teams from Europe, like Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich, compete for the continental crown. As a result, everything about the tournament is grand and unique, including its amazing anthem.
The UEFA Champions League Anthem
The official UEFA Champions League Anthem was written by English composer Tony Britten in 1992. It is an adaption of George Frideric Händel's anthem Zadok the Priest, which is traditionally performed at the coronation of British monarchs.
The Champions League Anthem is played inside the stadium before each match begins, as well as the start of television broadcasts of the games and at the end. It was last played in the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League Semi-final second legs, where Manchester City beat Real Madrid 4-0 in Manchester and Inter Milan trounced city rivals AC Milan 2-0.
The Champions League Anthem will be played again at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on 11 June 2023. Pep Guardiola will look to add another trophy to his cabinet as his Manchester City side plays Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League Final.

Top players to have commented on the Champions League Anthem
Hearing the Champions League Anthem for the first time, while also playing in that fixture is always an ecstatic feeling for even players at the top level.
Back in 2022 and still an Ajax player at the time, Super Eagles star Calvin Bassey was visibly emotional upon hearing the anthem ahead of his debut in the competition. It was a moment without words but the message was strong and clear – showing how proud he was to get to that level of his career.
Just recently, Arsenal star Jorginho, also revealed that it was an emotional night hearing the Champions League Anthem for a host of his teammates, who were making their Champions League debut after the Gunners returned to the competition for the first sime since the 2016/17 season.

“It’s iconic, it’s so remarkable. It was stuck in our heads when we were kids so you just kind of go back to your childhood when you listen to it”, he said.
“It seems so far away when you’re a kid to play in, and that’s why I think it’s really special. I was in Brazil as a little kid watching every single game of the Champions League, watching Barcelona, Milan and Arsenal with the ball, and the music.”
“It’s a competition the whole world stops to watch, so to be here now, we are living our dreams. I could see a lot of excitement for the PSV game and I could feel the emotional side of it as well. They were excited to hear the music, and even in training when we trained for the first time with the Champions League ball. They couldn’t wait any more. It was nice to see the boys achieving these dreams in their lives. It’s always amazing to see and I’m really pleased that I was there with them.”
