No one expected Taiwo Awoniyi to start the season in scintillating form, but the Super Eagles star has continued from where he stopped last season.

August was a keenly contested month with plenty of surprises and breathtaking performances. It is no surprise that Manchester City sit atop the Premier League table.
Some games have been exhilarating, with several players showing their class.
It’s time to pick the Premier League player of the month with six nominees, including Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles star Taiwo Awoniyi.
Here are the nominees and how they performed in August.
Taiwo Awoniyi (Nottingham Forest/Nigeria)
Taiwo Awoniyi has continued from where he left off last season. Simply put, Awoniyi is on fire.
The Super Eagles forward scored 10 goals from 27 appearances last term and are on course to beat that record this term.
Taiwo Awoniyi has been prolific this season. He has played in four games this term and scored three goals. The Nigerian forward has hit seven shots with three on target – representing a shot accuracy of 43%.

The three goals have come against Manchester United, Arsenal and Sheffield United. It puts him in fourth place on the top scorers chart behind Erling Haaland, Evan Ferguson and Bryan Mbeumo.
Awoniyi has also missed one big chance but has an assist.
Jarrod Bowen (West Ham/England)
Jarrod Bowen had a fantastic month. The English forward is unrelenting and continues to push for a berth with the Three Lions.
Bowen helped West Ham win the UEFA Conference League last season, and if you thought he would let off – think again.
Bowen, like Taiwo Awoniyi, scored three goals in August to be included in the nomination for Premier League Player of the Month.
He has better-shot accuracy than Awoniyi, as he has sent six shots on target from 13 attempts – representing 46%.
Bowen missed two big chances and created one assist.
James Maddison (Spurs/England)
Maddison started life on a solid note at Spurs. The former Leicester City midfielder has contributed immensely to the high-flying status of Spurs this term.
In four appearances for the North London club, the 27-year-old scored two goals and created two assists.
Nine of his 13 shots were on target, representing a 69% shot accuracy.
Maddison has a good case for the player of the month.
Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford/Cameroon)
Brentford have not shown any inkling that they’re a side that just gained promotion last season. They have continued to power on this term.
Despite the absence of Ivan Toney, who was banned, the club has not missed their star striker. The reason is none other than the Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo.
Mbeumo scored four goals, with two coming from the penalty spot.
Kaoru Mitoma (Brighton/Japan)
Kaoru Mitoma has one goal and three assists. The Japanese midfielder scored a stunning goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The fantastic form of the midfielder is one of the reasons why Brighton has continued to fly high in this campaign.

Rodri (Man City/Spain)
One would expect to see Erling Haaland on the list, but it is Rodri who has made it into the Premier League Player of the Month nominee list.
Rodri scored a stunner against Sheffield United to give the Citizens all three points in a 2-1 win.
The Spanish midfielder has scored two goals in four games and created one assist.
