Jordan Ayew played the full 90 minutes as Crystal Palace saw off the threat of Wolverhampton Wanderers in a pulsating 3-2 victory at Selhurst Park.

After coming off the bench to assist his side’s opener in Tuesday’s comeback win against Plymouth Argyle, Ayew earned an immediate return to the starting lineup at the expense of Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

Ayew nearly justified his manager’s decision to recall him into the XI after only 15 minutes into the contest, but for some excellent last-ditch defending.

While still rueing his luck at not making the most of a golden opportunity that would have seen him end a 10-game goal drought for club and country in competitive games, Ayew’s afternoon nearly went from bad to worse as he luckily escaped being booked following an altercation with Rayan Ait Nouri.

However, Ayew did not let his head drop and continued to put in a shift for Palace, winning 11 ground duels and successfully completing six tackles, both of which were game-highs.

Jordan Ayew will be keen to get himself back on the scoresheet while on international duty

There is no denying that Ayew has been an integral part of Crystal Palace’s recent resurgence, but for an attacker, nothing beats finding the back of the net.

Ayew has a very good opportunity to finally end his barren run in front of goal, having been named in Chris Hughton’s 25-man squad for Ghana’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic.

Ghana only need a point from their final qualifying fixture to guarantee a place in next year’s continental showpiece, but the Black Stars are expected to go in search of a victory as they look to put on a show in front of their fans.
