Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has been one of the standout performers in Europe this season.

Since moving to Bayer Leverkusen from Belgian outfit Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer, Boniface has made a fast start to life in Germany and was named Bundesliga Rookie of the month for both August and September.

The 22-year-old is a major reason why his side currently sit top of the Bundesliga table after the opening eight matchdays.

Boniface failed to find the back of the net in Leverkusen's last league outing against Wolfsburg over the weekend but he assisted Jeremie Frimpong's opener in the 2-1 victory.

In doing so, he racked up his 13th direct goal contribution of the campaign across all competitions which leaves him joint-third in Europe's top-five leagues.

Unsurprisingly, Boniface's form has led to an international debut for Nigeria and the striker looks set for a stellar career.

Victor Boniface spearheading unlikely Bayer Leverkusen title charge

Leverkusen kicked off last season with just one from their opening eight matches which ultimately led to the departure of the then-head coach Gerardo Seoane.

However, Die Werkself have started the current campaign with 10 wins and a draw from 11 outings with their only draw coming against reigning German champions Bayern Munich in a thrilling 2-2 stalemate at the Allianz Arena back in September.

At the centre of Leverkusen's success so far has been Boniface, who has proven to be a lethal focal point with his goalscoring prowess and his ability to bring other teammates into play.

Xabi Alonso's men are currently a point clear at the top of the Bundesliga table and based on the evidence of their start to the season, you would not bet against them going all the way and securing a first league title.

Boniface and Leverkusen are next in action on Thursday when they welcome Qarabag to the Bay Arena in the Europa League group stage.
