Kaizer Chiefs were supposed to be major challengers to Mamelodi Sundowns in the battle for the PSL title with Molefi Ntseki in charge, but rather than act like chiefs, they have played like servants in the king's court.

Following their poor performance this season, Kaizer Chiefs has decided it is best to part ways with their head coach, Molefi Ntseki.

From their first game of the season, the Amakhosi showed they were not up for the fight.

They lost 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns, and despite promises from the head coach, Molefi Ntseki, the side has continued to slip down the ladder.

The latest PSL loss led to Kaizer Chiefs sacking their head coach, who is less than half a season in the job.

With no clear direction and discernable pattern by the Molefi Ntseki-led Chiefs, a meeting was held on Monday morning to determine the future of the coach.

The outcome of the meeting saw the coach and club management agreeing to part ways by mutual consent.

The Amakhosi lost to Amazulu 0-1 in the Knockout Cup. The Amazulu loss was preceded by a home defeat at the hands of Cape Town City FC.

Molefi Ntseki has been at the helm for less than four months.

New man at the helm

Following the sacking of Molefi as head coach of Kaizer Chiefs, Cavin Johnson, who recently joined Chiefs as Head of the Youth Development Academy, will take over as the First Team coach in an interim capacity.

The current assistant at the Amakhosi, Dillon Sheppard, retains his position under Johnson.

The reshuffle within Kaizer Chiefs coaching staff also sees Assistant Coach Arthur Zwane returning to his former role within the club development structures.

A poor run of form

Under Ntseki, Kaizer Chiefs lost four PSL games in nine. They have only three wins and two draws to sit eighth on the log.

They got bundled out of the Knockout Cup by Amazulu and lost the opportunity to win any silverware this season after losing to Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8.

Ntseki has thus paid the price for the poor performance of the side.

Gratitude and goodbyes

Coach Ntseki arrived at Chiefs in June 2021 as Head of Technical and Youth Development. He took over as the senior team Head Coach in June 2023.

The coach thanked the chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung and the Board of Directors for the opportunity to coach Amakhosi. He also wished the Amakhosi well for the rest of the season.

The Sporting Director of the club, Kaizer Motaung Jr, also penned his gratitude to the departing coach for his contributions to the side.

He thanked Coach Ntseki for his contribution to the Club since he arrived at Kaizer Chiefs, both at the development level and with the senior team.

Motaung Jr. also wished him success in his future endeavours.
