There will be fireworks at Stade Mohamed V on Wednesday night as Wydad AC vs Enyimba file out to face each other in the quarter-final second-leg of the African Football League.

Wydad delivered a clinical and composed display that ensured they won 1-0 away at Enyimba in the first leg of the African Football League played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.

Yahya Jabrane scored the game’s only goal from the spot.

Wydad have been excellent since the start of the new season and are currently on a run of eight games without a loss since they lost to FUS Rabat in their Botola opener.

Enyimba, on the other hand, have not played much this season. Out of the five competitive games played so far, they can only boast of a win and now face an uphill task to progress at the expense of the Moroccan giants.

Meanwhile, the NPFL champions have not been approved to travel to Casablanca by the Moroccan authorities as of the time of writing, and that thus makes it more difficult for them to progress.

Nonetheless, Wydad remain on course to reach the final four at the expense of the Nigerian side.

Wydad AC vs Enyimba team news

The coach of Enyimba, Finidi George, is optimistic his boys can overturn the deficit.

”Football is about goal scoring; if we had scored, the overall result would have been different,” Finidi said.

“In a couple of days, we will have the return leg. I’m happy that in as much as we want to win the game, I’m happy that we lost by just 1-0, which gives us another opportunity to go over there and see if we can.

“If we have the same opportunities that we got here, if we can take one or two it’s going to be a different ball game.

“I’m quite optimistic about the second leg, but it’s unfortunate that we lost the first leg.” the former Super Eagles forward said.

On the other hand, Wydad Casablanca Coach Adil Ramzi has refused to rule out a fightback from Enyimba FC in their Africa Football League quarter-final fixture.

“It’s a match with two periods,” Wydad Coach Ramzi said, as per Le Martin.

“I’m happy with the result, especially since we scored and didn’t concede. Enyimba is a good team and we will have to concentrate in Casablanca during the return match. Matches only end with the referee’s whistle.”

Enyimba are expected to miss the services of vice-captain Somiari Alalibo who was sent off late in the game on Sunday. However, Pascal Eze could be sent on in his place, while Ikenna Cooper could be handed a start in the midfield in Casablanca.

The second leg is billed for Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca on Wednesday and kick-off is 7 PM (Nigerian time). The winner of the tie will face either Esperance of Tunisia or TP Mazembe in the semi-final.
