Better than Salah? Osimhen rated as Transfermarkt most expensive African player

Nigeria and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has been named as the most valuable striker in Transfermarkt's latest update of Africa's most valuable XI.

The celebrated statistics and transfer market website Transfermarkt.com revealed this astounding Africa's most valuable XI players recently.

Osimhen has, without doubts, been the best and most sought-out striker out of Africa at the moment following his record-setting campaign for Napoli with 26 Serie A goals last season that culminated in the club's first Scudetto win in 33 years.

The 24-year-old Nigerian also played a key part in the Super Eagles AFCON qualification, finishing as the top goal scorer with 10 goals to ensure the Eagles place in the competition to be staged in Ivory Coast next January.

The current Serie A best striker has also contributed 6 goals in the ongoing 2023/24 season for Napoli in the Serie A, although a hamstring injury has sidelined him for at least six weeks.

However, the player will come back stronger to fight and ensure the team meets their target this campaign.

Osimhen as striker: Who are the other players in Africa's most valuable XI

African players in the Premier League dominated the list.

West Ham United account for three players named in the most valuable XI, followed by Napoli with two, while Manchester United, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Wolverhampton Wanderers, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen have one representative each.

The 11 players have a combined market value of €533 million with Super Eagles centre-forward Osimhen being the most expensive African player valued at €120 million.

In goal is Cameroon international André Onana who moved to Manchester United from Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

In defense, Achraf Hakimi (Morocco), Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso), Nayef Aguerd (Morocco) and Rayan Aït-Nouri (Algeria), completed a four-man defence.

While in midfield, Frank Anguissa (Cameroon) and Ismaël Bennacer (Algeria) are the holding midfielders, with Mohamed Salah (Egypt), Mohammed Kudus (Ghana) and Saïd Benrahma (Algeria) playing in more advanced positions to assist Osimhen in the attack.

Leading the attack is the only Nigerian player named in the best XI, Osimhen who is the joint-fifth most valuable player in the world.

According to Transfermarkt, Osimhen is only behind Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior who rank first, second, third and fourth, respectively.

Interestingly, another player with Nigerian heritage also rated at €120 million is Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, while Jamal Musiala is the seventh most expensive player in the world at €110 million and also has a Nigerian background.
