Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Gift Orban and the Nigerian could represent a replacement for Harry Kane, who could be on his way out of the club.

Tottenham Hotspur are currently looking to replace their talisman and all-time top scorer, Harry Kane who is set to leave the club this summer.

The 30-year-old has only one year left on his current contract with Spurs and the Premier League outfit are reluctant to let him go for free.

Nigerian striker Gift Orban has been looked at as one of the possible replacements for Kane.

The young forward has had a great start to his young and promising career and has quickly caught the eye of some of the best clubs around Europe, like Manchester United, AC Milan, RC Lens and Lille, but Tottenham's interest has been one of the strongest, particularly in recent times.

World-renowned transfer news journalist and broadcaster, Fabrizio Romano has mentioned that the situation around Gift Orban will be one to watch for the rest of the transfer window.

“Keep an eye on Gent striker Gift Orban. He is really appreciated by Tottenham. I can guarantee that he is one of the names that Tottenham are keeping an eye on in case Daniel Levy will give the green light to the Harry Kane deal,” he said.

Is Orban the right player to replace Kane?

After being the face of Tottenham's most successful spell as a club this century, Harry Kane may be on the move with German champions Bayern Munich the most likely destination.

After lengthy negotiations, it was reported that the German club submitted a final bid to Tottenham for Kane which is worth more than €100 million including add-ons.

There have been no further reports as to the status of that bid but the club are already looking at replacements for him even though there is a chance the England captain could still stay.

Orban and Kane are at different points in their careers at the moment with the former just making a name for himself and looking to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League and the latter in the final phase of his career, looking to move on and win silverware elsewhere.

A team looking to start again in a new era and under new manager Ange Postecoglou may be better off making Orban their striker for the next decade than sticking to Kane.

Rather than having Kane go for free next summer, the best decision they could make in this situation should be to sell the player, buy Gift Orban and use the transfer fee generated from Kane's sale to finance their rebuild.

Spurs doing this accelerates the rebuilding process and allows the new manager to build his ideal team quicker. They also get a very young and hungry striker in the process.

The KAA Gent striker has already started the season in good goal-scoring form with two goals in two games this season and he looks set to score loads more. His career trajectory is going up and his ceiling as a player is high.

If Spurs don't strike now, they may miss a massive opportunity to sign a very talented striker for a relatively low price in what is a suboptimal striker market.
