Mohammed Kudus‘ agent Jen Mendelewitsch has revealed an agreement was reached for the attacking midfielder to join Chelsea in the last transfer window, only for the Blues to offer a ‘ridiculous' transfer fee that hampered the deal.
The Ghanaian international was in high demand during the recent transfer window after a 15-goal contribution for Ajax in the Eredivisie last season.
Along with other clubs who were interested in his acquisition, Chelsea looked to have moved into pole position for his signature at some stage.
Kudus' agent revealed this was the case and the move was edging closer before Chelsea offered just £17 million for the talented player and then refused to improve their bid.
Speaking to RMC Sport, Mendelewitsch explained why Mohammed Kudus failed to sign for Chelsea.
“We reached an agreement with Chelsea, we agreed the contract with Chelsea but the deal was not done.”
“He talked with the coach but in the end it didn't happen because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax. There was no counter offer.”
“Chelsea did this with lots of players this summer, making very low offers to clubs knowing that they would not be accepted.”
Mendelewitsch also revealed why she thinks the Blues behaved the way they did.
“The truth is that Chelsea were completely focused on the transfer of Caicedo, which took all their energy. Kudus had agreed terms with Chelsea but they kept on submitting low bids.
Kudus went on to join West Ham in the final week of the summer transfer window for £38 million.

PSG decided not to make a move for Mohammed Kudus
PSG were also linked with Kudus during the summer market, but Mendelewitsch has said that the French giants ultimately decided against making a move.
“He wanted to leave but there weren't 50,000 clubs that needed a midfielder and could afford him. Obviously we offered his profile to PSG, then it was the club's choice not to move forward,” she added.
“Every club has the right to decide that they go to another profile or that it is not their priority.”
Arsenal and Manchester United were also among the clubs thought to be keen on Kudus, but neither made an offer for him during the summer market.
The forward scored 27 goals and registered 12 assists in 87 appearances for Ajax in all competitions, while he has scored nine times in 26 caps for his country, including two goals at the 2022 World Cup.
Since donning the jersey of West Ham, Mohammed Kudus has scored twice for the Hammers this season across all competitions, and he looks set to contribute more for David Moyes' side even as the season progresses.
