Barcelona Rekindle Interest In €35m Spanish Defender

Local media in Spain have reported that Barcelona have once again shown interest in Valencia left full-back, Jose Luis Gaya, and will move for him soon.

The Blaugrana have reportedly kept tabs on the player for a long time now, and the transfer links have been hotly discussed in past windows.

Barcelona hopes that it gets a suitable backup for aged Jordi Alba who has been Barcelona's mainstay at the left-back position and in Gaya, the club hopes to make him a suitable competitor for the aged Alba.

At the moment, the Catalans depend on the B team’s Alejandro Balde as the only like-for-like replacement for Alba. Nevertheless, the coach does have options in Oscar Mingueza and Sergino Dest to cover the position if the need arises.

Jose Gaya is one of La Liga’s finest and most illustrious full-backs. His consistency has made him a regular in Luis Enrique’s Spanish National Team, too, competing with Alba himself.

Therefore, it will be only sensible for the club to get Gaya because he's a proven defender in the Spanish LaLiga given his experience.

Though it would be difficult to manage two big names for one position, the transfer would give the side incredible depth in the left-back department.

Gaya, 26, has a contract with Valencia that runs till 2023. And if it isn't renewed, the club will look to sell him, and Barcelona seems like a very likely destination.
