Sergi Roberto Agrees New Two-Year Barcelona Contract

Sergi Roberto Agrees New Barcelona Contract

Sergi Roberto has agreed a new two-year deal with Barcelona and the deal is said to be made official next week.

The 29-year old who is in the final year of his contract was set to leave the Camp Nou in the summer but he was able to sit and discuss his extension with the club.

The resolution to the discussion was that Roberto would remain at the club if he agreed to take a pay cut.

And given that other leaders in the Barcelona squad have agreed to take pay cuts, Roberto was left with no choice but take what the club offered him after dragging the transfer talks for a couple of weeks.

This is thought to have contributed to the cold reaction given to the Spaniard by the Cules in their disappointing 0-3 loss to Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

As noted by AS, Roberto was in tears in the dressing room after the game as he was hurt by the reaction from fans who, in his eyes, did not appreciate the fact that he continues to give his all even if the results aren't always positive.

Roberto wants to rebuild his relationship with supporters and hopes to do that by officially penning his two-year contract extension which Marca state will be announced next week.
