The 2023/24 European football season is not so far away anymore as various leagues have begun to put out their calendars for the new season. The big winners, Manchester City, are still celebrating their historic treble but their celebrations are about to be cut short as they have now found out when their league title defence will begin.

The Premier League has released the full schedule for the upcoming season with games scheduled to kick off in August. Nigeria national football team striker Taiwo Awoniyi will be kicking off his season against Arsenal as a Nottingham Forest player.

Awoniyi, Dennis, Onyeka find out opening day opponents

Taiwo Awoniyi is now the most famous Nigeria Super Eagles player in the Premier League after his heroics in the last few matches of the season helped save Nottingham Forest from relegation. The striker was brought in as the Tricky Trees' marquee signing after their promotion to the English football top flight league was confirmed, but injuries prevented him from showing his stuff.

As his fitness improved, the fans at the City Ground saw the real colours of the man who became their club record signing in the summer of 2022. Shades of the Union Berlin version of Taiwo Awoniyi was seen as he finished the season with double figures to guarantee another season in the top flight.

His performances earned him a slot on José Peseiro's AFCON 2023 qualifiers squad that will take on Sierra Leone in Liberia ahead of Ligue 1 ace goalscorer Terem Moffi. However, he will be returning to England soon as the Premier League has scheduled Nottingham Forest to face Arsenal on opening day.

Alongside Taiwo Awoniyi, Emmanuel Dennis will be looking to finally make a mark in the Premier League and regain the confidence of the national team coach as the AFCON 2023 tournament approaches. Frank Onyeka and Brentford will be facing off against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in the opening weekend while Alex Iwobi and Everton will tackle Fulham in the 3 PM slot of Saturday on the opening weekend.
