Famous British journalist and popular Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has suggested that the club he supports break the bank on Super Eagles superstar forward, Victor Osimhen.

Arsenal have been one of the most ambitious teams in this season’s transfer window. They are looking to make big moves to bring them one step closer to closing the gap between themselves and Manchester City and becoming Premier League champions.

They have already announced the signing of Kai Havertz from Chelsea on a long-term deal worth £65 million and are closing in on a British transfer record purchase of West Ham United’s captain, Declan Rice.

With this string of big purchases, Morgan wrote in a tweet that he is delighted with the work Arsenal are currently doing and have done, but he believes that the Napoli man could be the missing piece of the puzzle for his beloved side and such a purchase could push the Gunners towards big trophies.

Morgan urges Arsenal to sign Osimhen

“It’s brilliant that Arsenal seem to have won the race to sign @_DeclanRice (Declan Rice) who will be a monstrously good addition to the team”, Morgan posted on his Twitter account.

“But if we want to win big trophies, we also need a world-class striker who will score 25+ goals a season. I’d break the bank for @victorosimhen9 (Victor Osimhen).”

Will Osimhen improve Arsenal's frontline?

Among the strikers in Europe, Osimhen has put himself on the same level as some of the very best. In the just-concluded season, the Napoli striker scored 31 goals in 38 games for Gil Azzurri in all competitions, helping them to their first Scudetto in 30 years.

When his goal-scoring numbers are compared to that of Arsenal’s top-scoring players like Gabriel Jesus, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, the need for someone as prolific as Osimhen becomes more evident.

With 26 league goals to his name, he scored more times than the players previously mentioned above. Arsenal’s joint top scorers were Odegaard and Martinelli, with 15 goals each. A striker who can score at least 20 league goals could be a massive boost to Mikel Arteta’s side.

Can Arsenal afford Osimhen?

A purchase of that magnitude will definitely mean that the Gunners will have to break the British transfer record for the 24-year-old, who finished as the top scorer in Serie A last season.

With the big purchases they have made so far this summer, they may not have enough funds to purchase the Super Eagles striker in this window.

If they do try to get in the race for him, competition will be stiff as Manchester United and Chelsea are the domestic rivals who have long been interested in the player.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are the foreign names who want the player. Napoli themselves are keen on convincing the player to stay, so much so that they may adjust their salary structure to keep him at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium for a couple more years.
