The former LOSC Lille man is also the most in-form striker in Italy but at the moment, his Capocannoniere is being challenged by Lautaro Martinez, who came second to him in the 2022/23 season top scorer race.

The Argentine came off the bench at the weekend to score four goals for Inter Milan as they thrashed Salernitana away from home to hold on to the top spot. Osimhen also came off the bench but only contributed one goal to Napoli’s 4-0 victory away at Lecce. That was Osimhen’s second goal in as many matches after a goal drought that lasted five games.

Napoli are now third in the Italian Serie A as of 1 October 2023, four points away from the Milan clubs who occupy first (Inter) and second (AC Milan) places.
