One of the biggest transfer sagas in the transfer window looks to be coming to an end towards the close of the transfer window as Victor Osimhen is edging closer to a contract extension at Napoli as confirmed by the club’s lawyer.

This summer has been one of the most eventful summer windows in football history and for a good portion of the window, Osimhen had been in the headlines due to the amount of interest the Super Eagles striker generated.

Clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were rumored to be interested in the Nigerian at different points in the summer.

Napoli were open to selling the Nigerian, but like the Club President, Aurelio De Laurentiis would say, only a crazy offer would convince Napoli to sell the player.

Such an offer would make Osimhen the most expensive African player ever and one of the most expensive players in football history.

Such a price tag was beyond what these top clubs would want to pay for the player and they looked elsewhere for other options. In between all that £120 million bid which came from Al Hilal was immediately rebuffed by Gil Azzurri.

Osimhen renewal: What did Napoli’s lawyer say?

Mattia Grassani, who is the lawyer for the Italian Champions, spoke to TVPlay about different topics including the renewal of Victor Osimhen. Here were his words:

“I wrote the Osimhen contract a long time ago. Renewal? There are advanced negotiations and advanced negotiations.”

With 26 goals in Serie A title-winning campaign last season, it's easy to see why Osimhen is a highly coveted player in Europe and it looks like Napoli will keep their man for a while longer.

Osimhen himself has never tried to force a move away from the club which he has said on several occasions that he loves. He has always expressed his dream to play in the Premier League and has put his future in the hands of the Napoli president.

Osimhen has a contract at Napoli which will expire by the summer of 2025 and the rumored contract which will be offered to Osimhen will be one in which he is offered €12 million a year.

That salary will make him the highest-paid Napoli player ever and one of the highest paid players in the Serie A.

There will also be a release clause in the contract in order to ensure that his future is still in his hands somewhat.

€150 million is the rumored amount of money in the contract and considering how much strikers go for in the current market, it is a fair price for a player of his immense quality.

Although the interest in the player was strong, the 24-year-old never looked close to leaving the club and the Napoli hierarchy, publicly represented by the Club president, seemed relaxed about his situation.

“I am already at one of the biggest clubs and I could not ask for more. Forza Napoli always!” This is a quote from last April and it seems to still ring true today.”

With three goals in his first two matches this season, Osimhen’s commitment to the club has not changed and it has shown itself in his performances to start their title defence.
