Real Madrid Grabs Late Winner At The Mestalla To Move Top

Real Madrid's pursuit of the LaLiga this season have just been amplified after their win against Valencia in the presence of a mortified and vociferous fans of the Mestalla.

Carlo Ancelotti's men scored twice in the last five minutes of the keenly contested tie to usurp local rivals, Atlético Madrid on the summit of the table.

Valencia didn't have an expected start to the game as they were forced to make two changes in the first twenty minutes, replacing captain, Carlos Soler and Thierry Correira after the pair got injured early in the game.

The hosts then saw a penalty claim waved off by referee Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes when Maxi Gomez was tumbled down in the box by Madrid's David Alaba.

Madrid did have a couple of chances fall to their feet but were simply not utilized. Despite that, Valencia grew more confident in the game and had the best chance to go ahead right at the end of the half when Gabriel Paulista's header was brilliantly saved by Thibaut Courtois, keeping the scoreline at 0-0 going into HT, and maintaining Valencia's hopes of a famous result.

After a strong start to the second half, Valencia got rewarded five minutes after the hour .ark when Real Madrid's defense failed to clear the lines following a cross.

Hugo Duro took full advantage of this, beautifully striking the ball on the half volley to send it flying into the bottom corner, giving Valencia the deserved lead.

Real Madrid almost replied instantly, with Karim Benzema and substitute Rodrygo forcing Giorgi Mamardashvil into making two excellent saves.

The visitors' continued in their push for an equaliser, and it came for them five minutes from time and consecutively.

Benzema picked out Vinícius Júnior inside the box. The Brazilian struck the ball first time, placing it tidily into the bottom corner, and then returned the favour two minutes later.

This time he was the obliging provider, with his ball allowing Benzema to head home his 198th La Liga goal and stun the beleaguered Bats in their roost.
