Nigerian midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has spoken out on the circumstances surrounding the termination of his contract at Spanish Segunda Division side SD Huesca.
The Spanish club released a statement on Tuesday to announce that Kelechi Nwakali has ceased to be a member of their team as they have terminated his contract. They cited indiscipline and other offences, among which was insubordination, as reasons for the termination of his contract.
Now, the former U-17 star has come out with his own version of events to refute all the claims made by the Spanish club. In a lengthy post on his social media platforms, Nwakali, who got his first Super Eagles call-up for the African Cup of Nations tournament in January since his starring for the U-17 side, claimed that he was maltreated by the club and then sacked after he complained about the treatment.
The midfielder stated that his troubles at the club started when he was called up to join the Super Eagles for the outing in Cameroon. Like many other African players, Nwakali claimed the club tried to prevent him from leaving to join up with hids national team for the continental showpiece.
He, however, joined the Super Eagles and since he returned, has faced multiple challenges at the club, including non-payment of wages, as well as being frozen out of the team. Nwakali, whose contract at the club expires soon, also claimed that the club wanted to make him sign a new contract under duress so they could sell him off to another Segunda Division side, FC Burgos, but he rebuffed their efforts which led to hostility from the club.
The midfielder has been getting lots of support, most especially from the Spanish Soccer Players association, who have declared that they will challenge the midfielder's termination from Huesca.
Elsewhere, Watford FC's sporting director has claimed that Major League Soccer club, LA Galaxy, have not contacted him about the loaning of William Troost-Ekong.
The Super Eagles vice-captain was pivotal in the Hornets' return to the Premier League from the English Championship last season. This season, however, he has been reduced to a squad player who is barely used after suffering an injury and leaving to represent Nigeria at the AFCON.
CBS Sports reported that the MLS club have approached the Premier League strugglers for Troost-Ekong, only for Watford's sporting director to deny it. However, the news that Troost-Ekong is being courted by LA Galaxy is still being reported as fact.
The MLS transfer window remains open until May 4, giving the clubs plenty of time to agree a deal.
