Saturday roundup – Lookman, Ajibade, Ighalo, Onuachu on target

Nigerians were on song on Saturday across games in Europe and other parts of the world.

In the Seria A, Ademola Lookman scored for the third consecutive game as Atalanta defeated Sassuolo 2-1 on Saturday.

The Nigerian winger dust off a defender before cutting inside to curl a wonderful effort into the far top corner to complete the comeback and lead the side back to win. The goal took his tally in the Serie A to four in 10 games.

In Spain, Super Falcons forward, Rasheedat Ajibade, was in sensational form for Atletico Madrid scoring four goals for her side who returned to winning ways with a 5-0 drubbing of Huelva in a Spanish Primera División de la Liga de Fútbol Femenino fixture on Saturday.

Ajibade opened the scoring in the 28th minute to put Atletico ahead into the break. In the second half, the Nigerian scored her second of the game after she finished off a pass from Sheila Garcia in the 51st minute.

Brazilian striker Ludmila then scored the third for Atletico Madrid in the 70th minute from the penalty spot. The former FC Robo star completed her hat trick in the 88th minute and there was still time for her to add a fourth in additional time.

In France, in-form Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi featured for Lorient on Saturday who missed the chance to go top of Ligue 1. They were held to a goalless draw by nine-man Reims at the Stade du Moustoir.

The 23-year-old forward, who has scored eight league goals this season, did his ankle and was subbed off for Ibrahima Koné midway through the half.

In the English Championship, Leon Balogun played 14 minutes in Queens Park Rangers’ defeat at Luton Town. The defender suffered an injury that saw him replaced in the opening stages.

The former Rangers man, who started at right-back in the absence of Ethan Laird, injured himself as he landed awkwardly in the opening stages and was subsequently replaced by Osman Kakay.

In the Saudi Arabia Professional League, Odion Ighalo, bagged his fourth goal of the season as Al Hilal survived a scare to defeat Al Taee 3-2 in a thrilling affair.

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu scored the only goal of the game to help Genk claim a hard-fought 1-0 win at Leuven. Onuachu is back to his best, as the goal was his third consecutive goal for Genk.

Genk have been in great form all season. Aside from their opening-day loss against Club Brugge, the Limburgers were unbeaten all season and they now sit atop the Jupiler League table.
