Mikel Obi Set To Return To English Premier League

John Obi Mikel has become a possible target for English Premier League promotion hopefuls, West Bromwich Albion.

According to africanfootball.com, the former Super Eagles captain has been a free agent since leaving Turkish club Trabzonspor by mutual consent back in March.

The Baggies are said to be one of several clubs looking at the 33-year-old Nigerian, and they will likely be playing in the top flight of English football next season, as they currently sit inside the top two of the second-tier Championship.

Mikel played for 11 years in the Premier League with Chelsea, winning the title two times along with three FA Cups, the League Cup, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

He also had a brief spell with Middlesbrough in the Championship during the 2018/19 campaign, a tenure in which then-manager Tony Pulis was full of praise for the performances of the former Chelsea star.

“Since he came into the football club, the level of his performances have been exceptional,” Pulis said.

“He’ll give credit to the other players around him, I’ve spoken to him and he’s done that. You don’t win the trophies he’s won for no reason.
