Man Utd To Challenge Liverpool, Man City With These Two World-Class Signings

Manchester United are on an unbeaten run of 16 matches in all competitions under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And United will challenge for the Premier League title next season if they sign a world-class striker and defender in the next transfer window, according to former Liverpool and Scotland midfielder Don Hutchison.

The Red Devils still find themselves 34 points adrift of newly-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool.

Hutchison believes both ends of the pitch need addressing in the transfer market.

“I think what United need, in my opinion, if they're going to be serious about challenging Man City and Liverpool, they need a world-class centre-forward and a world-class centre-half,” Hutchison told Premier League Productions.

“It's good for United fans because at the start of the season when they were so indifferent and so inconsistent, if you were chucking a number out there you might go ‘oh Man United are six players away'.

“It feels like at the minute they're only a couple away.”

Borussia Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho is high on United's transfer wishlist.

Legendary Red Devils striker Andy Cole is a fan of Sancho but would like his former side to bring in up to four players to mount a serious title charge next season.

“You’re always looking to bring in players,” Cole told MUTV.

“There’s talk of Jadon Sancho coming in. Would he give Manchester United something different? Of course he would.

“I’m not going to sit here and say, “Oh no, he’s not good enough!” because of course he’s good enough.

“He’s got pace, he’s got the ability to go past players, score goals and create.

“I think ultimately all those kind of things are going to be down to financial issues coming out of COVID-19 – financially, it’s hit every football club.

“But Manchester United will undoubtedly look to strengthen and look to add to what they have.

“If you look at the way Liverpool have dominated the league this season, you’ve got to try and close the gap on them and Manchester City.

“So, yeah, I think Manchester United will definitely look to bring someone else in.

“If you look man-for-man at Liverpool and Manchester City, I think we’re possibly three or four players short.”
