Next Premier League Season Start Date Emerges – Reports

Next week, top-flight clubs will meet to iron out key details for next Premier League season, including a start date for the campaign.

Latest reports indicate that the weekend of September 12 is likely to be approved, leaving a gap of seven weeks between the end of 2019/20 and the new campaign.

Whilst the COVID-19 pandemic has had a big effect on what clubs may spend this summer, the transfer window is still a big priority.

Sky Sports report that during next week's meeting, clubs are expected to agree on the transfer window opening on July 27, the day after the 2019/20 season ends.

It will then shut October 5, three weeks after the season has begun, a similar timeline to the usual end-of-August deadline.

The latest reports from the Daily Mail claim that some supporters can expect to return to stadiums for next season.

It is claimed discussions for partial stadium re-openings in the top flight are at an ‘advanced stage' and that an announcement from the Government will come ‘very soon'.

Once the Government confirm their approach regarding the return of fans, it will be left to the Premier League and individual clubs to formulate a plan for fans' proposed return.

Clubs are exploring the possibility of issuing staggered arrival and departure times for fans during the opening phase of allowing them back into grounds.

If trials are successful then it is hoped grounds will be able to reopen at 25 per cent capacity in September before welcoming more fans later in the season.
