RS Berkane vs Bendel Insurance is happening as a result of Bendel Insurance acing their first preliminary round test in the CAF Confederations Cup.
The Moroccan side have had a lot of football action in the 2023/24 football season and are more match-fit than their Nigerian opponents.
They have played four Botola Pro (Moroccan league top flight) games in the season while the Benin Arsenal are yet to begin their NPFL charge for the season due to planning issues and controversies by the league management committee.
Berkane was given a bye to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League while Bendel has to defeat ASO Chlef of Algeria over two legs in the first preliminary round.
The game between Insurance and Chlef ended 1-1 on aggregate, with both teams winning at their home stadiums. Insurance would go on to knock the Algerian side out on penalties to set up a meeting with Berkane.
The first leg was played at the 12,000-capacity Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and ended 2-2.
The result was not taken well by many in the Nigeria football news media as it showed signs of levity and laxity from the only Nigerian side left in CAF competitions in the ongoing season.
They meet again on Friday 29 September 2023 and Insurance have the chance to do the impossible and win away at Morocco.
