Kelechi Iheanacho could be set for a return to the top tier of English football as Wolverhampton Wanderers consider a move for the striker.

Iheanacho is valued at £20 million by his current employers, having entered into the final 12 months of his contract at the King Power Stadium.

The 26-year-old is expected to be open to a move back to Premier League football, as he will want to keep playing at the highest level at this stage of his career.

With just four days left before the transfer window shuts, Wolves will need to move fast if they are to land Iheanacho this summer.

Why are Wolves chasing Kelechi Iheanacho?

Wolves scored the fewest number of goals of any Premier League side last time out (31), and their attacking woes look to have resurfaced again in the early stages of the current campaign.

Gary O’Neil’s men have found the back of the net just two times from a total of 50 shots across their first three matches.

They have also missed six of their seven big chances created so far, further highlighting their wastefulness in front of goal.

The departure of Raul Jimenez and Diego Costa has left Wolves a little light in attack, and it is no surprise that they are in pursuit of another striker to help bolster their firepower.

Kelechi Iheanacho in fine form for Leicester so far

Kelechi Iheanacho started the season playing second fiddle to Jamie Vardy but has since turned on the style since his reintroduction to the starting lineup.

Iheanacho grabbed a goal and an assist apiece in his first start against Burton Albion in the EFL Cup, and he was rewarded with three consecutive starts in the subsequent matches.

Iheanacho has helped his side to wins in each of the aforementioned games and recently supplied the assist for the opening goal in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Rotherham United.

At the moment, Iheanacho has established himself as a first-team regular under Enzo Maresca, who was recently full of praise for the Nigerian.

“Kelechi was really good, scoring and assisting one, and then in the second half he moved inside a bit more,” Maresca told the media.

“He was one of many players who were really good tonight.”

Super Eagles duo on track for Premier League return

Kelechi Iheanacho is not the only Nigerian international who could be set for a return to the Premier League, with Leicester teammate Wilfred Ndidi recently linked with a move to Nottingham Forest.

Both players have enjoyed a consistent run of matches of late, which is down to their improvement off the back of a tough season for them last time out.

Returning to the Premier League would give Iheanacho and Ndidi another opportunity to excel on the biggest stage and serve up a reminder of their ability.

Having Iheanacho and Ndidi back in the top flight would also represent good news for the Super Eagles, who will be keen to see two of their biggest stars back at the top of their game once again.
