However, his talent did not go unnoticed, as at the tender age of eighteen, a scout from RSC Anderlecht spotted his potential. For over a decade, Broos became a linchpin as their central defender.

During his tenure with RSC Anderlecht, he played an instrumental role in securing three European trophies, including prestigious titles, and also clinched three national championships and four Belgian Cups.

Between 1974 and 1986, Broos proudly represented the Belgian national team, earning 24 caps and achieving a notable fourth-place finish at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

In 1983, he decided to embark on a new chapter in his career by transferring to Club Brugge, where he continued to shine for five seasons, contributing to their Belgian Cup victory in 1986 and a championship win in 1988.

His coaching voyage began in 1991 when he took the reins at Club Brugge, where he achieved considerable success.

During his tenure, Broos guided the team to two Belgian championships in 1992 and 1996, along with Belgian Cup victories in 1991, 1995, and 1996.

His stint at Anderlecht from 2002 to 2005 was equally impactful, earning the team a place in the prestigious Champions League and securing the 2003-04 season championship.

However, a challenging 2004-05 season led to his departure after a 0-0 result against Gent, marking the first time in his career that he was let go from a coaching position.

Broos later joined KRC Genk in June, delivering a memorable victory over his former club Anderlecht with a 4-1 win in September. He eventually left Genk during the 2007-08 season.

Broos' coaching prowess did not go unnoticed, as he clinched the Belgian Coach of the Year award on four occasions, twice with Club Brugge (1992 and 1996), once with Anderlecht in 2004, and again with KRC Genk in 2007.
