Napoli players are in high spirits despite the arrival of a new manager. The Partenopei sound prepared to defend their hard-fought Scudetto title win. It was a memorable conquest for the Neapolitans and was celebrated in grand style by the Napoli players, but they should rest assured that the battle ahead will be glorious.

How active has Napoli been in the market for new players? They have not been all that busy, but the mood within the Napoli players is bullish. They still have the Capocannonieri (Victor Osimhen) and his assistant tormentor-in-chief (Khvicha Kvaratskhelia).

The other Napoli players will count on these duo to do the business, while they try to keep it tidy at the back.

New Manager

Rudi Garcia is not a greenhorn in European football. The former player hopes to emulate Luciano Spalletti, who is in line to become the manager of the Italian national team.

Napoli has a rash of talented players. Can Garcia get the best out of these Napoli players? The Lega Serie A kicks off this weekend with Napoli taking a trip to Frosinone. There lies the beginning of the answer to the question.

Star players

Victor Osimhen

Undoubtedly the biggest name among the Napoli players. He achieved a massive feat with the Italian side last season. Osimhen finished the campaign as Capocannonieri with 26 goals.

He broke records to become the African player with the most goals in a single Italian championship season. He also broke Samuel Eto’s record of highest scoring African player in Serie A with 47 goals. He also became the first African to win the Topscorer award.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

The 22-year-old Kvaratskhelia is one of the most vital Napoli players. He contributed immensely to the Scudetto win of the Partenopei last season.

He scored three goals and an assist in February 2023 and was named Serie A Player of the Month for a second time. He became the first player to win the award multiple times in the same season.

He won the award again the following month, plus the Serie A Goal of the Month and Serie A Goal of the Season for a stunner scored in a 2–0 win against Atalanta on 11 March.

Kvaratskhelia was the top assist provider with ten assists and scored 12 goals, being awarded the Serie A MVP award at the end of the season. He also won the Champions League young player of the Season award.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo

The €8 million signing has proven to be worth every penny. The Napoli captain was influential in helping his side win the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years. Can Di Lorenzo bomb down the right flank again this season to create goal-scoring opportunities again?

Also vital will be his ability to motivate the squad.

Giovanni Simeone

The son of Argentine legend and Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone joined the Partenopei this summer. He should become one of the top Napoli players if he plays to his potential.

After a season-long loan spell at the club, the move became permanent as Napoli forked out €12 million for his services.

Can Gio reproduce his goal-scoring heroics, where he scored 17 league goals in 35 matches for Hellas Verona in the 2021/22 season?

NEWS

Osimhen and Napoli agree on terms of extension

Osimhen, who refused large offers from Al-Hilal this summer, will become the highest-paid player in the history of Napoli.

He agreed a new contract with Napoli until 2026 that doubles his wages. The new deal includes a release clause of €150M, but it won’t be valid for Italian teams.

Al-Ahli Piotr Zielinski's offer accepted

Piotr Zielinski is off to Al-Ahli. The Poland international will move to the Saudi Pro League for €28m plus €2m in bonuses.

With his contract less than a year to run, Zielinski agreed on a three-year contract worth €15m-a-year – a massive jump on his current €4.2m salary.
